About Faiza Waheed

I am the Director, Health Impact Assessment (HIA) Services and a Senior Environmental Health Scientist at Intrinsik. I have a PhD in Cell Biology and a Masters in Environmental Science from the University of Toronto, and also completed a post-doctoral fellowship in HIA at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto. My post-doctoral work focused on the use of the HIA framework as it applies to major infrastructure and resource development projects and policies. I have developed HIA guidance documents for different government agencies in Canada/Ontario, and have conducted HIAs in the resource development, transportation, gambling and waste management sectors. I have also led literature reviews in different subject areas and also lead Climate Change and Health Vulnerability and Adaptation Assessments for province/territory (e.g, for GNWT and GNL). I am a member of the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada's Technical Advisory Group on Science and Knowledge where I give advice to IAAC on health and social assessment in Impact Assessment. I am experienced in engaging rights holders and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds in a trauma-informed and culturally appropriate manner and I also conduct scoping and recommendations workshops as part of the HIA process. I am experienced in conducting Human Health and Ecological Risk Assessments in Ontario and Canada and am an active member of the Ontario Public Health Association’s Built Environment Working Group.
