About Faizah Farouk

Hi there! I'm Faizah. Growing up between the very diverse Rotterdam and an even more diverse London, I was forced to ask the important social questions. Why are we alike? And how are we different? I want to make the social complexities across various academic fields make sense for societies. As an Integrated Community Reporter or (Story Catcher) for the municipality of Rotterdam I take on the role of messenger and translator of daily lived experiences of citizens towards the municipality. By providing qualitative participation methods and working within different communities in Rotterdam, I aim to formulate a new model and outlook for citizen participation in Rotterdam and surrounding neighbourhoods. My bachelor's degree in Sociology helps me make sense of the daily complexities I face in dealing with citizens as well as governmental bodies. I aim to bring this academic insight and experience into the international field by pursuing a Master's degree in International Public Policy as well as African Studies. I choose African Studies as my second master, due to my interest in the position of the continent in the international playing field, as well as the rapid developments happening in Africa alongside various challenges. By gaining more knowledge and experience about and within the continent, I hope to contribute to welfare, development and maintenance of local societies and communities within the continent.
