About Falk Meyer

In the early days of my career I started out as a applied mathematician dealing with optimizing algorithms to solve partial differential equations, which rapidly changed when I was introduced into the world of application development. Over the years a keen interest in working on smart, effective applications awakened and today I like to search for well suited technical approaches to challenging real-life problems - not only in programming applications and handling large sets of data, but also in creating an effective way for a curious development teams to make the best of their resources. As a software engineer with about 6 years of hands-on experience in the field of Geographic Information System Application development in the front- as well as back-end, I like to contribute to innovative applications, which provide its users with important insights in their respective use case. I have an interest in web application development with TypeScript and Vue.js as well as writing Python scripts to automate administration tasks and to create data-processing pipelines. In the field of GIS technology, I have extensive knowledge of ESRI Technology and APIs together with the data transformation software FME, which helps implementing robust and versatile applications on top of a slim data handling container. Creating a well-rounded (web) applications does not only need skilled developers, but also an effective technical as well as organisational project structure and a well thought-out documentation. Therefore, I like to employ agile methods and standardized documentation approaches. To leverage the collaboration between developers, the project team and the client, Continuous Integration and Testing methods in a DevOps managed manner are recommendable. In the core I still think and plan as a mathematician. I like clearly structured and logically well thought out approaches, which do not only suffice for the given requirements, but also incorporate an inner order, which enables easy documentation and future extension. A software which does what it should, which code is easily understood by new developers and which usage can be easily grasped by the users, is my ultimate goal. In the future I like to learn more about effective web application development in addition to data-analysis methods and data-processing frameworks in combination with Machine Learning approaches.
