About Fannie Osran

I am a third year law student at Washington University School of Law. I last interned at the Federal Defender for the Western District of Washington where I conducted research, wrote memos and motions, supported attorneys during hearings, and met with clients, working to secure favorable outcomes in their cases. Currently, I am serving as a law clerk in the Mental Health Division of the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia. Prior to law school, I served as a VIA Global Community Fellow, living in Mae Sot, Thailand. I supported the education of Burmese students living both in Myanmar and in Thailand by working at Parami University as an Academic Program Advisor and at the Minmahaw school as a teacher and policy consultant. Before that, I worked as a paralegal at Brody Kling PLLC, a Washington D.C. family law firm that specializes in domestic violence cases and offers reduced rates to low-income clients. I graduated from UC Berkeley in 2021 with a B.A. in Legal Studies and a minor in Human Rights. During my undergraduate years, I pursued my passion for advocacy and public defense through working in the ASUC Student Advocate's Office, where I supported students who had been accused of violating the campus code of conduct while working with other student leaders and university administrators to change university policies to better students' lives. I explored my interest in international human rights as a member of the Berkeley Law Human Rights Center's Investigations Lab, where I used open source investigation techniques to discover and verify evidence of human rights abuses globally. I am passionate about public defense and specifically about advocating for clients with mental health needs. I am currently applying to post graduate positions at public defender agencies and am excited to be taking the final steps towards achieving my goal of being a public defender.
