About Fanny Willman

I am a 27 year old Swedish journalist based in NYC. I write about culture, politics, and religion — and how these spheres intersect and shape the moral landscapes we live in. I currently pursue an MFA in Journalism at New York University. My background spans over three years in editorial writing and literature criticism, covering both fiction and nonfiction, with a particular interest in ideas, philosophy, and public debate. I’ve published two long-form essays exploring the intersections of belief and modernity in an philosophical journal in Sweden. Alongside my written work, I also host a podcast in Swedish that continues this exploration through audio storytelling and interviews. After several years in fast-paced opinion writing, I am now hoping to transition toward long-form, reported narratives — in both written and audio formats — to tell deeper, more textured stories about the world of ideas. My academic background is rooted in theology and ethics, with a master’s degree in theology from University College Stockholm and a bachelor’s in systematic theology from Uppsala University. I bring this analytical foundation into my journalism, aiming to connect intellectual depth with accessible storytelling.
