Fanta Freeman focuses her practice on litigation, particularly matters involving colleges and universities and K-12 schools. Fanta assists these institutional clients when they are facing claims of discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct and retaliation, and supports them in conducting internal investigations. She also works on civil rights matters arising under laws ranging from Title VII and Title IX to the Americans with Disabilities Act. Her experience working on disputes involving these and other federal and state statutes also informs her work drafting policies for university clients and counseling them on a wide array of compliance issues. Fanta’s background largely frames her approach to her work. Fanta’s upbringing—which includes being born in the U.S. to Sierra Leonean parents, attending an international school in Nairobi, Kenya, and transitioning to the U.S. for college—enables Fanta to bring a unique and distinct perspective to her workplace. Fanta was not only exposed to extensive cultural and ethnic diversity, but also diversity of thought, approach, and style.
