About Farah Hasan
I have almost 5 years of wet-lab experience, mainly focused on tRNA biology. Throughout my master's I investigated naturally occurring human tRNA gene variants that had potential to mistranslate glycine codons with alanine. As well, I investigated the effects of phenylalanine to serine mistranslation on a protein aggregation model of ALS. During my time as a research assistant, I worked on leucine tRNA variants that mistranslated tryptophan and phenylalanine codons. Currently I am a research technician in a microbiology and immunology lab working to develop a vaccine for Streptococcus pyogenes. As well, I will be building genetic tools for manipulating the Staphylococcus aureus genome. I hope to some day contribute to the development of therapeutics in order to positively impact the lives of many people without currently available treatment for their diseases.
