About Fawzia Rasheed

Fawzia is an independent policy and program analyst, practised in bringing ideas and people together to agree on what can be done within existing means. Tackling the climate and environmental crises are her priorities. Fawzia is currently leading the work on decarbonising health operations by 2030 for the Aga Khan Health Services, across 8 countries and involving over 400 health facilities. Innovations, including a transformative carbon emissions evaluation/management tool that she co-developed, are being shared with governments across the world in collaboration with the World Health Organisation. This far, she has led training for government officials of over 40 countries in carbon benchmarking. She holds professorships at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and the James P Grant School of Public Health. She is a Commissioner on the Lancet Commission for Sustainable Healthcare and an independent consultant. Fawzia has worked with over 20 governments to evaluate, reposition and develop initiatives. She was Senior Policy Advisor to an intergovernmental South-South initiative of 16 Ministries of Health:'Partners in Population and Development' and developed several collaborations in reproductive health including India with China, and Indonesia with Bangladesh and Thailand. As a Global Health Leadership Fellow and Senior Policy Adviser to the World Health Organisation (WHO), UNAIDS, and The Global Fund, Fawzia supported organisational reforms and developed strategic plans. Her engagements with INGOs, include CARE International, Médecins Sans Frontières International & AmplifyChange. Her governance work spans analyses for the Global Fund in 20 countries. She facilitated the conceptualisation and establishment of the Drugs for Neglected Diseases Initiative with governance from the public, private and academic sectors including the governments of India, Brazil and Malaysia. She also developed the Electoral Integrity Initiative (Kofi Annan Foundation), and managed research towards governance recommendations for the extractives industries (oil, gas and mining) for the Africa Progress Panel. As a Board Member for BRAC, she was part of the transition team for succession planning and established BRAC Global for which she was later invited to serve as Trustee. Her board experience includes drafting constitutions and by-laws, self-evaluations, online elections and governance reforms. Fawzia has a PhD in immunology/medicine from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
