Working in the Passenger Transport Industry since 2001, starting as a Driver Operator in London as an iconic London Bus Driver. Currently I am part of the Senior Leadership Team as a General Manager for Newbury & District (Part of Reading Buses). Delivering public transport (buses and Coaches) in the Newbury and reading area. My responsibilities are to ensure the two depots are operating effectively. General Manager of two depots, ensuring the teams deliver a smooth & reliable service to our passengers. Working with the Operations Director and other Senior Business Managers as well as local councils to set, develop, grow and deliver the strategic direction of Newbury & District. Operate allocated services to agreed standards of quality required by the business, ensuring cost-effective and timely allocation, utilisation and performance of all staff and other garage resources. Ensuring the management of staff is carried out to the appropriate company and legal standards, whilst maintaining maximum performance outputs and harmonious employee and union relations. Acting as a visible & credible leader for the business to ensure effective communication and engagement with staff at all levels and Managing all aspects of financial performance, including annual & period forecasting processes and ensure performance is within agreed financial parameters. Produce an annual budget with re-forecasting taking place periodically to monitor garage performance. Constantly reviewing operational delivery & challenge existing operating practices and procedures to ensure best practice is applied consistently across the business. Undertaking annual appraisals of operational management teams and manage performance issues as required. Working with peers and internal/external stakeholders to ensure operational activity is provided with the required service support. Taking responsibility for local negotiation and consultation with garage-based trade union representatives. Monitor garage performance against agreed KPIs used to inform business decisions and take appropriate remedial action where necessary highlighting relevant issues to the Operations Director. Ensuring the provision of timely & accurate information regarding garage operations in line with routine procedures and ad-hoc requests. Ensure all employees within the garage operate safe systems of work & have due regard to the health and safety of themselves, fellow employees & the public at all times.
