About Fazil Dusunceli

Trained in agronomy in Turkey and in management of plant diseases in UK. Experiences include 17 years of service as research scientist and manager in Turkey and four years of service as counsellor / alternate representative of Turkey for UN agencies in Rome, Italy. Currently working for the Plant Production and Protection Division of FAO in Rome as plant disease expert serving the Emergency Prevention System to support projects and activities related to prevention and management of trans-boundary diseases of key crops. Portfolio of work includes various projects on diseases of wheat (rust diseases), cassava (Virus diseases), maize (Lethal Necrosis) and banana (with focus on Fusarium wilt disease TR4). Activities focus on support for surveillance, contingency planning, capacity building and international collaboration for prevention and management of key trans-boundary plant diseases. Located currently as an outposted officer at the FAO Subregional Office for Central Asia in Ankara, Turkey where He provides technical support to agricultural projects including those on plant disease management, climate change adaptation and value chains.
