Background
About Felicia Chaisson
As a doctoral student and National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow actively engaged in the Brain and Memory Lab at Louisiana State University, my academic journey has been shaped by a diverse range of experiences. Prior to immersing myself in higher education, I proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, where I honed crucial leadership skills while instructing Marines in signals intelligence analysis. This transformative period provided me with invaluable firsthand insights into technical skills development, effective communication (particularly in writing and packaging information), leadership dynamics, teamwork, and adept time management—skills that now form the bedrock of my current academic pursuits. My research interests largely include cognitive control, depth of processing, learning, memory, anxiety/stress, and PTSD. Currently, I investigate the effects of acute stress on the ability to monitor, assess, and regulate memory encoding and retrieval during learning. Leveraging a multi-faceted approach, I employ behavioral, physiological (eye-tracking), and electrophysiological (EDA/GSR and EEG) methodologies to unravel the intricacies of these cognitive phenomena. I have a good command of data analysis tools, such as R and Matlab, and am proficient at translating complex data sets into meaningful insightsBeyond my primary research focus, my interests have expanded to encompass UI/UX and UI Accessibility, with a dual commitment to both development and research within the realms of technology and gaming. My growing enthusiasm for Human-Computer Interaction underscores my dedication to understanding and enhancing the synergy between humans and technology.Looking ahead, my professional aspirations converge at the crossroads of neurocognitive research and technology. I hope to integrate my doctoral research insights with my interests in UI/UX, UI Accessibility, and Human-Computer Interaction. By doing so, I aim to contribute important neurocognitive perspectives to the evolving landscape of human behavior and technology. My ultimate goal is to leverage these diverse experiences to bridge the gap between cutting-edge research and practical applications, thereby making meaningful contributions to our collective understanding of the dynamic interplay between human cognition and technological advancements.
