About Felicity Sim

Originally from Newcastle in the North East of England, in I attended Glasgow University where I studied a Bachelor of Nursing (BN). Upon completion of my BN I began working in the medical directorate, rotating across three hospitals and gaining experience in acute medicine. The two years I spent completing this rotation offered me an excellent grounding in nursing however I was ready to move into the area which had sparked my interest during my nurse training, oncology. The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre is one of the busiest cancer centres in the United Kingdom, providing cancer treatment to around new patients a year. I worked here for eight years in the in- patient environment, looking after patients from all cancer streams and of all ages, including teenagers and young adults. The skills and experience that I gained working in this centre for excellence supported my continued journey in oncology. In 2009 I completed a MSc in Health Care Specialising in Cancer Care which I undertook to consolidate my practical experience with a strong evidence base. I completed a qualitative research project titled,'Nurses' experiences of preceptorship in the oncology environment: three perspectives'. In 2013 my partner and I moved to Perth, Western Australia and I began working in the Cancer Centre at St John of God Murdoch Hospital where I remained for the following eight years as a Clinical Nurse. My current role is as an Oncology Nurse Practitioner.
