About Felix Bernhard

Technology, safety, and hands-on experience – that’s what defines my professional and voluntary career. As a Senior Engineer at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) since 2014, I combine technological development with HSE management and practical implementation. My work connects research, application, and organizational responsibility. I serve as a Crisis Manager, Laser Safety Officer, Occupational Safety Representative for the Executive Board, and Lecturer at the University of Bremen. I bring a wide range of practical qualifications to my role: • Special driver’s license for prototypes and test tracks • Excavator, crane, and forklift certifications • Salvage diver at the THW (German Federal Agency for Technical Relief) • Certified paramedic with several years of voluntary service in Bremen’s city emergency medical services I have contributed to DFKI expeditions in Abisko (Sweden) and Lanzarote (Spain), where I was responsible for field safety and occupational health management during research operations. In 2023, I founded the DFKI Dive Team to strengthen the connection between research and real-world underwater applications. This team supports research projects with dive missions, enabling realistic testing and underwater recovery scenarios. My mission: Develop technology that not only works in the lab but also under real-world and extreme conditions—safe, sustainable, and practice-oriented.
