About Felix Heisel
I am an architect and researcher working towards a circular building industry. Currently I am Assistant Professor and the Director of the Circular Construction Lab at the Departement of Architecture of Cornell University, USA, as well as Partner of 2hs architects and engineers in Germany. Previously, I held research and teaching positions at KIT Karlsruhe, ETH Zürich, FCL Singapore, Harvard GSD, EiABC Addis Ababa and UdK Berlin. As a result of this work, I published several books - most recently Addis Ababa: A Manifesto on African Progress (2019, Ruby Press), Cultivated Building Materials: Industrialized Natural Resources for Architecture and Construction (2017, Birkhäuser), Lessons of Informality: Architecture and Urban Planning in Emerging Territories - Concepts from Ethiopia (2016, Birkhäuser), or Building from Waste: Recovered Materials in Architecture and Construction (2014, Birkhäuser), and contributed articles to various magazines and journals. My interest in Ethiopia’s urban growth also resulted in the movie series _Spaces, a collection of six documentaries started in 2011.
