Background
About Felix Stricker
I started my university education because I have always had a passion for journalism. Since it was mandatory to add a second major at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen, I chose history. I was already enthusiastic about the subject at school and this only intensified over the duration of my studies. After my bachelor's degree, I initially thought a master's degree was pointless, since practice seemed more important to me than theory. Since I worked intensively on sports journalism topics during my semester abroad in the USA, I wanted to gain a foothold in this field. I was first able to gain experience at the local editorial office of SportBild in Frankfurt. I completed a three-month internship there, with the possibility of moving to Berlin for the long term afterwards. I knew that if I decided to do that, I wouldn't start studying again and wanted to position myself better for the future. For this reason, I decided to study for a Master's degree in Modern History in the city of Cologne. A master's in journalism still seemed pointless, since practice beats theory for me to this day. That's why I preferred to work in journalism alongside my studies. I only succeeded to a limited extent with a marketing position at the University of Cologne Business School, where the focus was on social media management. However, there was enough room for my own projects, so I started Geschmacks-Geschichte, my own podcast and blog on the topic of culinary history. Since the topic captivated me and I believed in the idea, I invested a lot of work in the project, which ultimately paid off. In cooperation with the city of Cologne and the Cologne City Museum, I was able to publish my first own book on the subject of the culinary history of the city of Cologne. Around the same time, I completed my master's degree and stopped working at the university. I wanted to work again in areas closer to my own interests and fortunately succeeded. On the one hand, I started in a position as social media manager at the Irene and Sigurd Greven Foundation and built up a new social media presence there, which I still maintain today. Secondly, I became one of two new editors-in-chief of the "kölschlive" magazine, published by the Fanprojekt 1. FC Köln 1991 e.V. The magazine is published four times a year with a total circulation of and covers all interesting topics related to 1. FC Köln. We were able to breathe new life into the magazine, so to speak, and are very pleased with the way it is currently set up.
