I started my service career on 29 October 1979, 42.5 years ago, when I was reading in Class Eleven, and have been all through in Shipping & Logistics industry in Bangladesh. During my already very long professional career (42.5 years) in shipping and logistics industry specially in going to perform sales, operations and launching new products in the market, I had to build up very extensive relationship and rapport with different categories of external parties such as Port, Customs, Government Enterprises (TCB, BADC, MOF, BJMC, etc.), Off-docks, Importers, Exporters, Buying houses, Shipping Lines, Airlines, Forwarders, Stevedores, Surveyors, Custom House Brokers, Jute Mills, Frozen Foods Companies, Garments' Manufacturers, etc. I was very fortunate that I first got the scope to work with customers (Exporters/ Jute Mills/Jute Shippers) in 1980 during my job in CHB customer service team of Madhumati Shipping Agencies (Pvt.) Ltd. I had to make extensive sales calls to and telesales with exporters (Frozen Foods Manufacturers, Jute Mills, Jute Shippers) and buying houses from 1989 till 1994 when I have been in Birds Bangladesh Agencies Ltd and Shaw Wallace Bangladesh Ltd. Being Khulna Branch In-charge of Maersk Line and Airfreight & Ocean Freight In-charge of Mercantile Bangladesh Ltd (currently called as Damco), from 1995 till 2003 along with other responsibilities I had also to carry out P&L responsibility of that branch and of those products; I had to prepare and meet the budgets and targets and had to work with numbers. At the time I left Maersk Line, Khulna in 1998, I was able to capture more than 50% of market share of Reefer shipments ex Mongla. As regards to further business development in Damco, as the head of the team I was able to successfully launch and promote Airfreight and Ocean Freight businesses in this organization in Bangladesh.
