About Fergus Wegener

I have made the move into energy markets at STX group, where I will help clients to navigate the UK compliance markets while building the overall STX business offering and its links to banking markets. I have 4+ years experience as a financial derivatives structurer at Rand Merchant Bank in SA, and am well qualified for quantitative roles in the financial services industry. In 2021, I consulted hands-on to the financial markets team of ING Bank in Amsterdam - working on the IBOR transition with the interest rate trading desk. I have a quantitative (stats and math finance) study background from University of Cape Town, and was top graduate from my Exec MSc class at Amsterdam Business School. During this year of study I developed an interest in energy markets, and focused my research on European electricity markets by implementing forecasting ML models for day-ahead prices. I am curious about the world around me and am always looking to learn. I like to stay busy (ball sports, running and music). I work best in a team, but enjoy technical detail. I am South African, have a UK Passport, and also have a residence permit allowing work in the Netherlands until 2025.
