About Fernando Chacon
An idealist looking to move the needle towards a positive environmental and social impact, through my personal values and my skills as a spatial analyst. I have experience in multiple and diverse projects associated with my interest, from fieldwork biologist to behind a screen geographer. While my career has taken me to many places I also aspire to grow steady within the GIS profession. As a research assistant, having worked with conservation planning, taught me the importance of a multiperspective and multi-disciplinary approach. As I experience how conservation biology works on a macroscale, it still needs a closer realistic approach by including social aspects and economic activities. That in a way taught me two big lessons to solve challenges: 1. we can not treat problems as an isolated event, 2. We can not tackle it using the mentality that created the issue.
