About Fernando Navarrete

Shock after shock, crisis after crisis, academics and practitioners alike have come to the conclusion that we knew less that we thought. But that led to a new aspiration: how to expand our understanding on economic, social and political dynamics in order to attain even more ambitious policy goals but now in a more resilient and sustainable manner. As a practitioner of financial markets with a clear policy-oriented drive and a sound theoretical background, the experience of the last two decades has been personally an enriching one: to oversee the risk build-up prior to the Great Financial Crisis as a banking regulator; to witness the crisis unfold and a new policy agenda being created from the vantage point of a policy think-tank; to implement the new financial standards in times of great market stress as the Chief Financial Officer and Head of Strategy of a national development institution; to shape the national and European financial policies that should ensure greater resilience as Secretary General of the Spanish Treasury and, finally, to witness the broad policy reaction to the pandemic and the inflation crisis from the vantage point of a central bank
