About Fernando Ursine

I’m a writer and translator from Montes Claros, Brazil, currently based in Tokyo. I’m passionate about language, storytelling, and capturing fleeting moments in the city. My recent work focuses on introspective prose poems and freeform texts that explore urban life. I enjoy observing and translating the rhythms of daily life through micropoems and short fiction. With a background in law, Japanese politics, and public policy, I’m drawn to projects that bridge cultures and improve how people connect—whether through words, systems, or communities. At Vistra, I support payroll services for international clients in Japan. My current role focuses on being a point of contact for client communication, helping our team to clarify and reduce misunderstandings around Japan’s payroll systems, and collaborating on internal staff training initiatives. As a translator, I understand that there’s no such thing as a perfect translation—but my goal is always to convey the intent and nuance of the original as faithfully as possible. I’ve translated theater scripts, academic texts, poetry, and corporate communications across Portuguese, English, and, to some extent, Japanese.
