About Fernando Yordan

I am a software developer whose career has mostly revolved around machine learning infrastructure, an intersection of my interests in system design, mathematics, and AI. These interests manifested from an early age doing math and robotics competitions, as well as playing lots of video games. I graduated MIT with both a S.B. and a M.eng in EECS, where my thesis revolved around using multiple depth images to construct a 3D mesh of a person's arm and to extract volumetric features for use in Lymphedema Detection. In the industry I did two summer internships with Amazon Prime Air, where I worked prototyping UAVs, two summers in Google where I used MapReduce/Flume and other large distributed data processing techniques for feature extraction. I then worked 3 years at Google Travel doing multiple pipelines and backend services for data aggretation, state inference, and features to be added to the product. After that I went to work at Abacus.Ai where I integrated multiple new types of feature groups into the product among other features. My personal life and relationships with my friends and family is extremely important and that bleeds into my passions and work, hence in 2022 I made the move to go back to Puerto Rico so that I can provide my services as a software developer while still working home nearby my family. I like opportunities that allow me to learn new technologies, give me an opportunity to flex my problem solving and creative muscles, and allow me to challenge myself while also providing lots of value to the company. My current strenghts are mostly in backend services, with particularly strong skills in C++ and Python, my current goals involve learning frontend skills to complement these, and try to involve myself more in product development. I do not want to entertain any opportunity in the industrial military complex nor one that would require me to move from Puerto Rico.
