About Fidelis Nthenge

I am a passionate advocate for social justice and I am committed to inclusion through diversity, equity and belonging. I provide strategic advice on curriculum and instruction, to IB’s education office. I lead the team in developing IB’s educational offer, pre-K to 12. I have a “schools first” approach, which in turn allows the schools to put their students first. I believe in distributed leadership because I am not the only leader in the team. I do this by building a framework that facilitates agency and allows the team to experiment and implement new ways of working. Furthermore, my team likes that I create a safe space for them to share their views/perspectives, give feedback and identify their professional development needs. Inspiring those I lead is no easy task because I have a diverse team, but it is important for me to keep them motivated. How do I do this? By explicitly defining the vision and co-creating it with them to create a sense of purpose and belonging. As a woman of color who holds a senior position, I strive to identify and nurture underrepresented talent (women, people of color and LGBTQI+) through coaching and mentoring. Lastly, if I were to use one word to describe myself, it would be integrity. I lead with the highest integrity because it’s something I believe in. I have visited, worked at and lived in different countries.
