About Fila Fuamatu

My passion is to advocate and influence leaders to empower people to engage & collaborate in systems change & design for collaborative outcomes. I believe I am called to develop my skills and talents for the purpose of serving others, for greater good. I was a recipient of the Pacific Health scholarship from 2015-2018 from the Ministry of Health NZ supporting Pacific people working in the Public Health sector to undertake postgraduate studies (Equity). A research internship with the Oceania National Olympic Committees from 2016-2017 enabled me to be part of Capacity Building Training with the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat to engage regional policy & to conduct field research in the Pacific for Pacific people on National Sport Policy Development and Health in Samoa (Masters in Public Health research). Health Sector 2015 - 2024 In 2024 I was a Partnership and Networks Lead, in the Northern Region Pacific Health at Health NZ, Te Whatu Ora. From 2020 - 2022 as a Lead Systems Innovator at the The Cause Collective I led the Movement and Sport Initiative. Experience as a Health Promoting Schools Advisor for the Waitemata District Health Board & a role at Harbour Sport as a Pacific Community Manager enabled me to lead SportSPasifik projects & coordinate Green prescription, Active Families & Teens programes in West Auckland funded by the Ministry of Health NZ. Sport Sector and Community Development 2008 - 2025 I am currently in the Pasifika Sisters in Sport team serving in NZ & the Pacific. From 2022 - 2024 I worked at Sport NZ in the Innovative Investment space to fund community-led initiatives. In 2019 – 2020 was part of the consortium to lead a regional evaluation of a Pacific-Led vocational sports education programme in 15 Pacific countries for the Oceania National Olympic Committees Executive. I've managed the National Junior sports program for the Samoan Government Ministry of Education, Sports & Culture (Professional Teacher & Community Coach development) followed by a role with the National University of Samoa as a Physical Education lecturer. In 2010 I won an Australian Government Award & was based at the Australian Sports Commission, Canberra for 4 months which enriched my knowledge & experience leading to work as a consultant & advisor in Sport Development & Sport for Development in the Pacific Region. Education Sector Professional teacher, trainer and facilitator for over 15 years. Worked in NZ/Pacific in developing curriculum & resources, mentoring and leadership development pre service/in service training (MFAT projects)
