Since the financial crisis, the financial sector has been overwhelmed by a wide variety of new laws and regulations. As a result, EY’s Financial Services Organization (FSO) has built a young but thriving Legal & Regulatory practice in Belgium consisting out of skilled, pragmatic regulatory business advisors with an in-depth understanding of the legal framework. Our fast-growing team provides regulatory business advice to all major financial institutions active in Belgium, particularly banks, insurance companies and asset managers. As a Partner, I built and lead the FSO Legal & Regulatory team and am further developing our practice to: • provide regulatory business advice to financial institutions of exceptional quality (as subject matter experts) • translate the ‘law in the books’ into tangible business requirements (bridging the gap between the business, IT & legal), and arrange for implementation in distribution/service models and business processes and operations • take end-to-end ownership in regulatory implementation tracks, from regulatory gap analysis to the final deliverable (focus on MiFID(II), AML, PSD2 and GDPR) I particularly developed the following capabilities: • MiFID II and GDPR expert, guest lecturer & author • Regulatory issues with regard to cross border provision of banking and investment services • Certified Compliance Officer (FSMA accredited)
