About Finlay Hurree

As an engineering undergraduate with a passion for innovation and sustainability, I specialise in designing high-performance consumer products that merge functionality with purpose. My journey began at TEDI-London, where I’ve had the opportunity to work on a range of impactful projects — from autonomous repairable vacuum systems to wearable smart goggles for extreme sports, and IoT-integrated water sensors to improve environmental monitoring across the UK’s waterways. Throughout my degree, I have developed deep technical proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks), FEA (ANSYS), MATLAB, and rapid prototyping tools, and I bring a strong focus on design-for-manufacture, user experience, and right-to-repair principles. My goggles project, for instance, explored heated lenses, live GPS tracking, and smart display integration — a synthesis of ergonomic design, material science, and embedded systems. In 2024, I was honoured to present my sustainable GardenBox project at the London Design Festival, engaging with policymakers and educators to encourage STEAM education in schools. I was also a finalist in the 2022 Engineers Without Borders competition, presenting my food waste to fuel energy solution for refugees in Govan, Glasgow, and earned second place in TEDI-London’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. This summer, I will graduate and transition to a Master’s in Management at Hult International Business School, with plans to pursue their Dual Degree Scholarship in Marketing. My goal is to fuse engineering expertise with commercial strategy to bring technically robust, market-responsive products to life. I’m particularly drawn to roles in product management, where design thinking and cross-functional leadership are essential. Alongside my academic career, I’m an active skier and American football player based in London. My 6-month capstone exchange at Arizona State University helped me develop international collaboration skills and a global perspective — essential in today’s interconnected innovation landscape.
