Background

About Finn Nardie-Warner

Currently, I am a student in the UMSL Department of Education: Bachelor of Educational Studies program. This unique program prepares students for educational positions in alternative settings. My BES degree emphasizes teaching in non-traditional settings such as historic parks, archaeology sites, cultural points of interest, as well as national, state, or local recreation/park sites. My specific interest is to work in a natural park or museum setting. I am completing a minor in Anthropology with an archaeology focus as part of my degree. My employment before and during college includes significant interpersonal experience; camps and recreational centers. I am an experienced Customer Relations employee with a demonstrated history of working in the higher education industry and recreation sector. Excellent professional skills in customer service, teamwork, and collaborative problem-solving. Strong technical skills with Microsoft Suite tools (Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint). As someone who values health I am a motivated health and recreation worker who prioritizes customer goal setting and skill developent. Working my way through school as a brain injury survivor has offered me the opportunity for significant self-awareness as it relates to my academic and career goals. Being faced with mortality changes one's perspective, helping prioritize what is meaningful in life. Recovering from a life-changing experience helped me identify what was personally important. I want my career to matter to me while it permits community involvement. Also, I see myself contributing to efforts that help people see that no matter your station in life one can come to appreciate what can be seen from the front door, if your search engine is oriented to optimism. Also, I strongly recognize that working hard is a reward because I have experienced times when I was unable to work, or even lift my head, for that matter. In my spare time I enjoy being outdoors in nature; rock climbing, working as a volunteer on environmental protection projects, backpacking, being involved with my community as a recreational volunteer with youth, especially those who are brain injury survivors. I also enjoy learning about new environments (mountains, deserts, shores) and going on float trips with my dog, Serendipity. Finally, I am close to all of my siblings, who are spread across the country, visiting them regularly in NYC, Minnesota, and Maryland.
