About Fionnuala Murphy

I currently work as a Data Loss Prevention analyst in a large multi-national finance company. Within my current role I assist with managing detection logic, developing and rolling out DLP strategies within the bank. This can involve providing training, monitoring controls, processes and activity across the network, and identifying security risks and exposures. Prior to joining the Global Cyber Security team I worked in Strategic Project Services with a focus on Lean & Design thinking. In addition to project experience I have over 17 years experience in the Funds industry across a number of companies, mainly in the NAV side of operations. I have excellent communication and presentation skills. I'm an imaginative thinker with an ability to adapt rapidly to new information. I have experience in project management, including working across a multinational company to implement new software. I have completed in-house project management training to add to my experience in this area. At both Dexia and SMT, I was seconded to offshore teams based in Asia (Hong Kong and Tokyo respectively) to assist with the development and training of the offshore teams. I have a Higher Diploma in Data Analytics where I focused on BI Dashboards data visualization. I also have a Masters in Science Communication - My thesis was on the role of Social Media in the communication of science and technology. In particular I looked at rotating curated accounts and their ability bypass unconscious filter bubbles in order to communicate with people across a wide spectrum. In my personal life I have helped to organise 3 science fiction conventions and to start up a film festival specialising in sci-fi, fantasy & horror. I am currently the secretary of the Mary Mulvihill Association.
