About Flavio Feferman
Flavio is Adjunct Professor and Distinguished Teaching Fellow at the University of California-Berkeley, Haas School of Business. On two occasions (2014 and 2024) he received the Earl F. Cheit Award for excellence in teaching. Flavio teaches courses on business, technology, innovation and entrepreneurship in emerging markets. He served as Director of the Berkeley-Haas Lean Startup program in Brazil, Faculty Advisor for the Berkeley-Haas Latin American Business Conference, and Faculty Lead for the UC Berkeley-Haiti Initiative. Flavio is a member of the Advisory Board of Antera, a pioneering venture capital firm in Brazil. He is a frequent speaker in business, technology, innovation, and economic development forums. His publications include- Contributing author:"Clusters of Innovation in the Age of Disruption", edited by Prof. Jerry Engel, UC Berkeley, 2022- Editor/Author of the book "Broadband Internet in Brazil"(with Knight & Foditsch), 2016; Finalist of the Jabuti Award, Brazil's main literary prize- Contributing author:"Global Clusters of Innovation", edited by Prof. Jerry Engel, 2014- Author:"Groupelephant.com, 2021: Beyond Corporate Purpose"(with Prof. Mike Grandinetti). Finalist of the Berkeley-Haas Case Series competition, 2023. Flavio is also president of Developing Markets Group (DMG), a consulting company that brings together business and technical experts (including other Berkeley faculty) to carry out applied consulting projects in emerging markets, with a special focus on Latin America and Brazil. Projects include technology strategy and digital infrastructure, innovation, and regional economic development (clusters). During his 30 years of professional experience in business and economic development, Flavio directed many international projects for organizations such as the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, and the U.S. Trade and Development Agency, as well as projects for corporations, private investors, and NGOs. Flavio is a graduate of Stanford University and UC Berkeley, with advanced degrees in Business and Economics. Representative projects- Economic development & regional clusters: Northeast Brazil, Amazon (Pará state), Minas Gerais state, US, Colombia, Argentina, Algeria, Nigeria, etc- ICT infrastructure & digital inclusion: Brazilian states of Ceará (3 projects), Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Amapá, Sergipe, and Pernambuco - Program evaluation: Consultant for AmeriCorps public service programs- Business strategy: VISA, Oracle, Bechtel, The Gap - Entrepreneurship: Advisor to >100 startups
