About Florence Gregson

I am a research chemist with experience in aerosol and particle science, holding a PhD and two previous postdoc positions. I recently transitioned into industry as a Manager in Analytical Development at STEMCELL Technologies in Vancouver, responsible for analyzing particles used in cell separation products. My most recent postdoctoral position was in atmospheric aerosol science at UBC in Vancouver, generating and characterizing nanoparticles from wildfire smoke (phase behaviour, chemical composition, reactivity, viscosity and optical properties) to better understand the impacts of wildfires on the atmosphere and human health. My first postdoctoral position was at the University of Bristol, analyzing human respiratory aerosol emissions to better understand the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 through aerosol generating procedures in hospitals or from breathing, speaking and singing. My PhD involved using spectroscopic techniques to study the fundamental processes behind the evaporation of aerosol particles and microparticle formation, in the context of spray-drying for industrial applications and for respiratory drug-delivery.
