About Florent Tomatis

I am a fifteen-year experienced professional specialized in sustainable agrifood systems and food security, providing expertise in the formulation and implementation of investment operations in food supply chain, distribution systems, and market infrastructures in developing and emerging countries. I am currently working for the FAO Investment Centre as Agribusiness and Value Chain Specialist where I support projects under the FAO/WB and FAO/IFAD Framework Agreements for identifying and designing relevant investments in agri-food sector to improve the competitiveness and efficiency of agricultural value chains and assist the development of food supply and distribution systems in Central Asia, North and West Africa and Caribbean. Prior to joining FAO, I worked in the main European wholesale markets in France and Italy (Rungis market in Paris and Centro Agroalimentare di Roma) as manager of International Projects Department, providing technical assistance to local and national public authorities for the sustainable development of urban food systems and wholesale markets. My area of expertise is the development of agrologistics and market infrastructures as well as the formulation of national sector investment plans to build inclusive and sustainable food systems to increase food security. I particularly work on the improvement of fresh food supply chains to secure urban food supply through the design of agro-logistical centres, wholesale food markets, and a better market linkage for farmers with the support to short supply chains and Productive Alliances.
