About Florian Eder

Newsroom leader, strategist, media executive, newsletter artist and journalist with a focus on European, EU and German affairs, at ease with writing in two languages. Founding editor of a new premium policy service helping professionals to navigate German politics and policy. Co-founder of a successful media startup, and part-time professor at a public policy school. Over the past two years, I’ve led, run – and built from scratch – Süddeutsche Zeitung Dossier, a B-to-B offering under the roof of Germany’s leading broadsheet. I set up the editorial and business operations to achieve ambitious goals, conceived our boutique – both paid-for and free – product line, grew the newsroom and its ambition to become indispensable reading among German elites. I also teach matters of journalism and media at the Florence School of Governance at the European University Institute. I joined Süddeutsche's leadership ranks, came back to Germany, and to writing in German after a career at Axel Springer, in particular its billion-dollar gem Politico where I helped to get the Brussels operations off the ground as a Managing Editor. For some most memorable years, I helped make Brussels Playbook the morning briefing that was not to be missed, as its daily author. I began my career as an Italy correspondent for the late Financial Times Deutschland and worked as an economics and business editor.
