About Florian Richoux

I am a senior researcher at the AI Research Center of AIST, in Tokyo, Japan. Previously, I was an associate professor at the Université de Nantes, France. I work in Artificial Intelligence, studying stochastic local search algorithms for solving combinatorial optimization problems. Currently, I am mixing Constraint Programming and Machine Learning to tackle combinatorial optimization problems. I design and implement algorithms for decision-making, planning, and prediction problems in dynamic environments with incomplete information. Games reveal themselves to be a good-but-still-challenging simplification of such environments. I have been for three months a visiting scientist at the Facebook AI Research lab (FAIR) at Paris during Summer 2015 and a visiting professor at the University of Tokyo for 5 months during Spring and Summer 2014. Before my position at Nantes, I was a CNRS research assistant at the University of Tokyo. I obtained a Ph.D. in Theoretical Computer Science at the École Polytechnique, near Paris, France. My research field was the study of the computational complexity of constraint satisfaction problems, a framework intensively used in Artificial Intelligence.
