About Florian Stecker

I'm a mathematician with experience in software development, particularly systems level programming in C/C++ or Rust and in Linux. I got my PhD in Heidelberg, Germany in 2019, then moved to the US where I worked as a math researcher/professor at UT Austin and Florida State University (FSU). My specialization is in geometry/dynamics, but because of the way math is interconnected at the research level I'm familiar with most areas of modern math. That includes more "industry relevant" areas like linear algebra, statistics, number theory, cryptography, etc. I often build computer experiments and visualizations to guide my research, some examples of which are on my website (https://florianstecker.net). For performance reasons, this is often in low-level languages like C/C++ and Rust, and I have had to do all kinds of optimizations, be it finding custom algorithms for constraint satisfaction problems, optimizing tight loops in assembly, writing kernels to run on GPUs or even parallelizing my software to run on a supercomputer, or using multi-precision arithmetic or special field extensions for improved accuracy. Previously, I have worked on simulation software at the German technology company Siemens and was involved in data analysis for huge astrophysical simulations at the University of Munich. I'm going to leave my job at the university and move to Philadelphia. This means I'm open for new opportunities!(as long as they are remote or around Philadelphia) I'm most interested in software engineering work which has challenging technical/algorithmic/mathematical aspects or deals with performance/resource constraints, for example high performance computing, GPU computing, machine learning, embedded systems, computer algebra, cryptography, formal verification, symbolic execution, computer security, etc. But I'm also open for anything else where my skills might be useful!
