About Floris Groothuis

A summary about who I am, my goals and experiences: My goal is to use my knowledge and experience for a better society. My current employment at the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment allows me to do just that. I evaluate toxicity studies and perform Safety/Risk Assessment of chemicals. Most of this work is done in the context of classification and labeling (Should chemical X be labelled as carcinogen or e.g. skin sensitiser?) and the European REACH regulation (registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemicals). I also coördinate many of the work related to classification and labelling as well as the national REACH & CLP helpdesk. My previous work at the Institute for Risk Assessment sciences at Utrecht University involved a lot of research in the area of "alternative methods to animal testing in toxicology". This means our research was aimed to help improve toxicity tests that are not based on animals. In my current work at the RIVM I still use the knowledge obtained for the evaluation of chemical safety. I am further still involved in a group working on alternatives for animal testing from the perspective of a regulatory toxicologist. Additionally I am voluntarily involved in some other things related to work like website design for the Dutch society of toxicology (NVT). Additionally I have been organising the Dutch Toxicology annual meeting in 2015 together with a few others. Personal interests- Tennis - Dance! With the demonstration group from dance studio Phoenix Apeldoorn (see link below)- Film editing and animation in Final cut pro X/Apple motion, most often for the previous mentioned dance studio- Treasurer and organizer of the demonstration group within dance studio Phoenix Apeldoorn - Photography - Web design Too many hobbies for which I do not have sufficient time unfortunately.
