About Foo Meng Ng

Foo Meng is passionate and active in conducting applied R&D at the intersection of Data Analytics, Data Visualization, Artificial Intelligence and Human Effectiveness specifically Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and User Experience (UX) for over 20 years. At RP, he started big data analytics research funded by both competitive grants and industry key stakeholders in creating innovative predictive visual analytics solutions for understanding human behaviour through Social Media since 2010. Till date, Foo Meng has a successful track record of attracting approximately 1.138 Million of research funding from competitive grants and industry key stakeholders to support his research activities. Through his research work and close relationship with Industry, Foo Meng has also helped RP to set up a Joint-Laboratory between RP and StarHub for advancing human behavioural analytics in Telco Big Data and Social Media. Recently in 2022, Foo Meng has also successfully collaborated with a Singapore Based Marketing & Research Consultancy Agency to translate his research into an operational and deployable AI-based analytics engine for Advertisement Analytics on-premise. The Agency has since deployed the custom AI-based analytics engine to 3 of their regional offices: Singapore/Malaysia/Hong Kong for their staff to use. Prior to RP, Foo Meng was Senior Research Scientist with DSO National Labs (2001-2009), where he was lead scientist in designing and developing of cognitively optimized advanced battlespace information visualization interfaces for augmenting situation awareness (SA) in command and control (C2) displays. Technically, Foo Meng has experience in the application of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Data visualization techniques to both structured and unstructured data (textual data) for data analysis, inference and communication of insights. He is well-versed in Tableau and PowerBI. He also has experience in translating applied research to Industry. Academically, He teaches B240 Data Analytics & Visualization and B218 Business Statistics at the School of Management and Communication (SMC). He is also one of the approved Trainers for RP's GO-RPA CET programme using the UIPath Business Automation Platform. He has also successfully mentored RP students in using Tableau to compete in Data Analytics and Visualization Competitions organised by the Singapore University of Social Science (SUSS) in 2022 and 2021. The teams under his supervision won 2nd Place in both years. However, in 2023, one of his teams achieved the championship.
