About Fouzia Shersad

Dr. Fouzia Shersad is currently heading Medical Education at Dubai Medical College for Girls. She has over 25 years of experience as clinician, quality assessor, administrator and medical educationist in many countries, including as the lead coordinator of curriculum reform. After graduating in medicine from Government Medical College, Trivandrum, Dr. Fouzia practiced medicine in India and Oman for several years. Other qualifications include JMHPE, FAIMER fellowship, PhD in Medical Education and FRCP(Glasgow). As Director of Institutional Effectiveness at Dubai Medical College for Girls, Dr. Fouzia led the college to win the prestigious Dubai Quality Award (DQA) and Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award (MRM) Awards in 2011. After achieving training by EFQM, Dr. Fouzia was appointed as a Senior Assessor for the Dubai Quality Award. Dr Fouzia is also an Honorary lecturer of medical education, Keele University. For almost two decades, Dr. Fouzia has been responsible for organizing and managing program accreditation and institutional licensure cycles at Dubai Medical College. Dr. Fouzia led the Annual Dubai Medical Education Symposium (DMES) for ten years since it was first introduced in 2005. Dr. Fouzia represented Dubai Medical College in the National Taskforce for medical student competencies. Her experience includes faculty development and teaching professionalism and study skills to undergraduate medical students. Her special area of research interest is professionalism, and she introduced the Professional Attitudes and Social Skills (PASS) initiative at DMC as an innovation project since 2009. Other areas of research interest include quality in medical education, learning sciences, instructional technology and Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs).
