Background
About Fran I. Hamilton
Dr. Hamilton was born into a medical family in Canada and has been drawn to global health equity and social justice issues all of her life. With gratitude and enthusiasm, Fran sustains lifelong commitments to uplifting the human spirit, resourcing well-being, and weaving together unifying teachings of wisdom traditions from around the world. She thrives in nature’s beauty, creative interactions, and compassionate service, and has participated in daily mindfulness practices for over thirty years. Before medical school, Fran’s global citizenship was ignited as she taught language arts and science at a girls’ high school in the West Indies, and she has travelled to India four times, including for a medical elective on a mobile hospital bus in rural India. Many of the young people Fran mentored at an alternative school in Boulder, Colorado maintain close contact with their former principal who inspired and transformed their lives. As a physician, Dr. Hamilton continues to teach, heal, and mentor by combining scientific knowledge, compassion, and intuition. Through deep listening and ongoing learning that integrates the best of complementary and allopathic medicine, Fran co-develops optimal plans for the well-being of thousands of individuals. She is passionate about serving in ways that empower people’s freedom to access their inner truth, resource their health and resilience, and act skillfully with benevolence and respect. In her beloved daughter, Grace Shanti, was adopted from an orphanage in Calcutta, India where impoverished girls are at risk of being sold into brothels. Fran’s deep yearning to support other young girls to live in freedom combined with her multi-faceted experience to create the Goodness To Go social enterprise and inspired the writing of her Handbook for Humanitarians. Proceeds support girl empowerment programs developed by Child In Need Institute in India.
