About Frances Barclay

As a former journalist with BBC Scotland, I am passionate about the role of effective communications in shaping society for good. In my current work with Amnesty International, I champion human rights through strategic public relations and media engagement. In previous roles, I have combined my experience in academia with my journalism skills to advance the practice of science communication both in Aotearoa and around the world. Outside of work, I nurture a range of interests and hobbies, including the ongoing development of a podcast on artificial intelligence. With a background in public health nutrition and a personal interest in clothing, I am particularly curious about the ways in which food and fashion can empower us to live with dignity. I have pursued these interests through various voluntary roles, including as a personal stylist with the Wellington-based charity Yes for Success. Together, my professional and voluntary experiences offer a unique range of skills and perspectives to any communications team.
