About Francesca Ballarini

I am currently Associate Professor (with "Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale as a Full Professor) at the University of Pavia, Italy, where I teach Medical Physics, Physics of Innovative Oncological Therapies and Health Physics Simulation. My research activity, which is mainly performed within research projects funded by EU, MIUR, Italian Space Agency and the Italian Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN), deals with biophysical models/MC codes simulating radiation-induced biological effects, with focus on cancer hadrontherapy and space research. In particular, I am the main author of the BIANCA (BIophysical ANalysis of Cell death and chromosome Aberrations) model/code, simulating cell death and chromosome damage by ionizing radiation, and I lead the Computational Radiobiology group of the University of Pavia. Since 1998 I published about 170 articles (110 of which in journals indexed in Scopus and/or ISI-WoS) and I delivered more than 60 conference presentations (38 of which by invitation). I am currently President of SIRR-Italian Society for Radiation Research, I am Editor of the journal "Frontiers in Oncology" and I am member of the CTS of the Applied Nuclear Energy Laboratory of the University of Pavia; in the past, I was member of the Councillors Board of IARR.International Association for Radiation Research. I am peer-reviewer for the main journals in the field, the Swedish Space Agency, the French Institute of Health and the Czech Science Foundation.
