About Francis Kane

Throughout the three years of my course at the University of Plymouth I have attended multiple placements in several different trusts such as North Somerset, Torbay and South Devon, Exeter, and Bristol. During these placements, I worked with a number of podiatrists and have had many experiences with diabetic foot and wound treatment, as well as seeing many of the common foot diseases, and performed several nail surgery procedures. I have also had the opportunity to observe and participate in multi-disciplinary clinics, domiciliary visits and treatments such as shockwave therapy. I consider myself to be a good communicator, and I am capable of creating a healthy, safe, and comfortable clinical environment for my patients. I provide patient-centred treatment while also keeping a good and effective patient-practitioner relationship. I know the limits of my practice and will not hesitate to get a second opinion or advice from a colleague or other professional if required. Throughout my coursework, I have also thoroughly researched and written academic essays on topics such as professionalism in healthcare, impaired wound healing, and the role of the podiatrist in falls prevention. This has significantly deepened my knowledge on these subjects and allowed me to apply and demonstrate them in my practice. My group research dissertation was on patient experiences of treatment for plantar heel pain. I am excited to be starting my podiatry journey and career and am looking for my first band 5 position in an NHS setting in the
