About Francis Lyimo

I'm a Ph.D holder in Sociology with a minor in Global Change Studies, and Fulbright and ICGC Alumni with over ten years of teaching and research experience overseas and in the US. My areas of expertise are political sociology, environmental sociology, sociology of development, agriculture and gender, global change studies, research methodology, and social inequality. I have done extensive research on agriculture and gender, marine resource management, wildlife management, HIV and AIDS and reproductive health. I am also a recipient of of several awards including an Outstanding Teaching Award from the University of Minnesota, Fulbright Professional and Academic Funding, Graduate Research Partnership Program Award of the University of Minnesota, the Interdisciplinary Center for the Study of Global Change Award, Western Indian Marine Science Association (WIOMSA) grant and Dr Margaret G. Fivawo Memorial Award. My current research focuses on contract farming, smallholder farmers' gender relations, livelihoods, and subjectivities in Tanzania and designing integrated forest- agricultural landscapes to enhence multiple livelihood benefits to and from agriculture in Tanzania.
