About Frank Spinney

I am the Lead teacher for Stillwater Academy. Stillwater Academy is a special purpose private school through Community Health and Counseling Services that provides education programming for children and young adult that have behavioral issues. I am the teacher for the children who are low functioning and on the autism spectrum. Many of my students are non verbal and use augmentative communication devices or PEC's to communicate and are taught using discrete trials and ABA methods. I work closely with speech pathlogist, occupational therapist, behavioral consultant and clinicians to provide a well rounded wrap around approach to their program. As of May of 2022 I have been working at Stillwater Academy for 25 years. I am passionate about the work I do. I have worked in conjuction with the Maine Autism Society to bring the best wrap around education approach and support to the families I work with. I have volunteered at thier annual sofball game to raise money used to support families dealing with autism in Maine. I coordinate with the Autism Society each year to bring the Autism Walk to Bangor, where many of our families can network with other families and specialist. I have also worked at the Annual Autism Retreat which provides families with various types of training in legal and financial support. each year I assist and attend the Bangor Autism Conference, both to assist in the conference and continue in my education in current trends and approaches to working with people on the spectrum. in 2016 I was award the Volunteer of the Year Award by the Autism Society of Maine and recognized at their annual meeting for the work I had done with them. I love what I do.
