About Fred Charbonnier

From a young age, I’ve been on a swift and steady path toward expertise in Software Development and Computer Science. I began this journey when I transitioned from a German to an English school, drawn by the accessibility of STEM education. This decision set the stage for what has become a passion-driven career in tech.Instead of following the conventional route of a university Computer Science degree, I chose to take control of my learning by enrolling at 42 London. This decision has been nothing short of transformative. The self-paced, peer-led, and hands-on nature of the program has accelerated my growth far beyond what I imagined. I've consistently challenged myself, tackling complex mathematical and programming concepts while developing innovative projects.Having been working as an IT Specialist at 42 London for over half a year, I've solidified my skills in IT infrastructure and project management by working on the technical execution of a major campus move in a team of only two. This involved the coordination of relocating 150+ machines and a server room as well as building it all back up to a fully operational standard in a tight timeframe. In early 2024 I attended my first hackathon in Prague, in which myself and my teammate developed a sustainability focused tech solution which subsequently helped us win GreenHack. This experience sharpened my problem-solving skills and my commitment to using technology to address real-world challenges. Beyond the technical hard skills, I continue to cultivate my non-technical skills. At 42 London, I have honed my abilities as a public speaker, leading presentations for prospective students and external partners. I am passionate about sharing my knowledge and promoting our revolutionary education model. I've also overseen all aspects of 2 back to back Piscines, our 26-day highly intensive and strict selection process.Balance of work and life is something I value very highly, which lead me to founding FTFC, our school's football club. I've taken initiative to enhance student life, organising more sporting events than any other student-led activity - helping to build a stronger, more active community.
