About Fred Fabris

I have over 16 years experience in various environmental officer/advisor/scientist roles. 15 of those years coming from government (DES) where I held roles involving the regulation and assessment of environmental impacts associated with mining in Queensland. This included rehabilitation and associated costs, impact assessments, approvals, GIS, environmental auditing, team leading, project management, waste management strategies, regulated dam management, monitoring and analysing data. I switched to the private industry where I did 13 months with Glencore as an Environmental Advisor across two different sites in Mt Isa. Experiences gained include contract management and procurement, GIS, project management, rehabilitation, impact assessment, incident response/auditing, monitoring/reporting and environmental compliance. I now have made the change to consulting where I started with WSP Australia, working in the Mine Environment Team. STUDY Originally starting with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Environmental) in 2006, I completed a Graduate Certificate of Environment in 2020 which focussed on Climate science/change, environmental futures/resilience, statistics, natural hazards and renewable energies. This made me realise the importance of climate change and the role renewable energy will play. In 2021 I enrolled in a mechanical engineering degree with the aim to eventually work in the field of renewable energies/climate change. I am over half way through my degree and aim to finish by 2026. I have been accepted by the Engineering Institute of Technology to commence a Graduate Certificate in Renewable Energy Technologies in September 2023.
