Background

About Fred Haag

I am a practicing artist who lives and works in Hellam, Pennsylvania. Since 1987, I have taught a variety of art classes at Penn State York (including Art Appreciation, Drawing, Design, and Painting) and I show my work in both regional and national exhibits. I attended the University of the Arts (then Philadelphia College of Art), where I graduated with honors in 1984, earning a BFA in Painting and Drawing. I earned my MFA in Painting and Drawing at the Pennsylvania State University in 1986. My major subject areas are the figure, the studio-interior, chairs, and the still-life. Over time, aspects of my work often reference itself through aspects of subject, color, composition, and even particularities such as patterns and brushwork. I am currently working on a series of figure paintings and interiors. Exhibits include a one-person show at YorkArt, a three-person show at Studio Gallery 234 in York, Pennsylvania and the 86th International Juried Exhibition at the Art Association of Harrisburg. Other shows are artspace’s STRASSENKUNST: an international exhibition of work inspired by graffiti, Richmond, Virginia; the Art of the State in Harrisburg Pennsylvania; A Long Shadow: The Influence of Fairfield Porter, Villa Julie College Gallery; the Art of the State in Harrisburg Pennsylvania; the National Midyear Show at the Butler Institute of American Art; the W&J National Painting Show at Washington & Jefferson College in Washington, Pennsylvania; the Annual Maine-Maritime Flatworks Exhibition in Presque Isle, Maine; The River Walk Arts Festival and Exhibition in York, Pennsylvania; the 2nd National Juried Exhibition, Faulty Beagle Gallery, Kunkletown, Pennsylvania; & On/ Of Paper, Green Hall Gallery, Chowan College, Murfreesboro, North Carolina; First Street Selects, First Street Gallery, New York City; the Three Rivers Art Festival, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; numerous group exhibits at Studio Gallery 234 in York and at the DŌSHI in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
