About Frederic Chappee

After serving over 17 years in the French Army, I chose to dedicate my expertise to a cause that has mattered to me since childhood: the protection of endangered species. Today, as K9 Technical Director at IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare), I support the development, strengthening, and operational deployment of K9 units engaged in the fight against poaching and wildlife trafficking. My responsibilities include: Advising field actors on the design and management of their canine programs, Providing technical and logistical support to existing teams, Promoting an ethical, sustainable model of K9 deployment fully aligned with conservation efforts, Training and mentoring handlers with a long-term vision of knowledge transfer. Currently active in Zimbabwe and Indonesia, I am also available—through my missions with IFAW—to support other K9 units in need of guidance, technical reinforcement, or strategic structuring. For me, a dog is a mission partner, never a tool. Their performance is intrinsically linked to our ability to ensure their physical, psychological, and social well-being. The IFAW model we promote is grounded in high standards—covering training, working conditions, and beyond… including retirement care. We are committed to managing end-of-career transitions for our K9 partners, ensuring that each dog enjoys a dignified, stable, and loving retirement after years of loyal service. My ambition: to help foster an international network of K9 units that are coherent, effective, and respectful of animal welfare—serving the global mission of biodiversity
