About Frederic Hans

Experienced climate policy analyst and advisor (9+ years) specializing in the evaluation of and strategic guidance on corporate and national-level climate action. I lead projects to develop assessment frameworks for evaluating climate strategies and effectively communicating findings to diverse audiences through policy briefs, scientific publications, and media briefings. In this capacity, I also provide analytical support to policymakers and voluntary initiatives in developing transparent and science-aligned transition plans, for example as a contributor to the Assessing Transition Plans Collective (ATP-Col) and a member of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) Expert Working Group on Scope 3 emissions for the Corporate Net-Zero Standard v2.0. At NewClimate Institute, I co-lead the annual Corporate Climate Responsibility Monitor publication, assessing the transparency and integrity of corporate climate strategies. I also contribute to international research projects such as the Climate Action Tracker and Net Zero Tracker, evaluating national climate targets and policies. This work led me to serve as the lead author of Chapter 4 in both the UNEP Emissions Gap Reports of 2019 and 2020, while contributing to all reports since 2018. I frequently provide interviews to international media outlets, including the BBC, The Washington Post, Reuters, and various national outlets in Germany and Switzerland. I hold a master's degree in Comparative and International Studies from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH Zurich). In 2023, I served as a visiting researcher at the Environmental and Climate Economics Research Group at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
