About Frederik Cornillie

I’m passionate about research and innovation in technology-enhanced learning (educational technology), and about collaboration between researchers, tech companies, educational institutions, and other partners in order to bring about economic and societal impact through engaging and effective technology-mediated learning solutions.I currently hold a position as research and valorization manager at Itec, a research group of KU Leuven and imec, Flanders’ high-tech research and innovation hub for nanoelectronics and digital technologies. I'm also involved in the coordination of imec's strategic research programme on education and training. Dutch: have contributed both strategically (as project manager and as liaison between academic research and industry) and on the level of content (as scientific collaborator) to more than 30 multidisciplinary and collaborative R&D projects in the domain of technology-enhanced learning and in the wider field of data science, and have assisted and taught academic courses in computer-assisted language learning (CALL) and educational technology. I was associate editor of the international journal ReCALL (Cambridge UP), have co-organized international conferences, regularly serve as a reviewer in venues on CALL and related fields, and have supported the research organization CALICO as an executive board member.My research specialty concerns the question how mechanisms of technology-mediated gaming and play can support instructed language learning, and the intersection of (tutorial) CALL and task-based language learning more broadly.
