About Frederike Bemelman

Internist with over 25 years of experience, specialized in nephrology and immunology. Deputy Head of the Department of Nephrology and Head of the Kidney Transplant Program at Amsterdam UMC, with a focus on complex transplant cases. I am a physician with a keen eye for the person behind the illness and find great fulfillment in unraveling diagnostic puzzles. After earning my PhD at the University of Amsterdam, I conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Oxford, focusing on immunological tolerance. My current research centers on transplant medicine, autoimmune diseases, and ethnically determined differences in disease presentation and processes. Initiator of sustainable transplant programs in Suriname and the Caribbean Netherlands. Lecturer in nephrology, clinical immunology, infectious diseases, and medical ethics. Recently completed the supervisory board program at Nyenrode Business University. Chair of the National Council for Kidney Transplantation. Since 2020, I have worked with great dedication at Kruispost, a medical post for undocumented migrants. Plaatsvervangend Afdelingshoofd Nierziekten en hoofd van het niertransplantatieprogramma van het Amsterdam UMC, met een focus op complexe transplantaties. Ik ben een arts met een scherp oog voor de mens achter de ziekte en vind bijzonder veel voldoening in het ontrafelen van diagnostische puzzels. Na promotie aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam deed ik postdoctoraal onderzoek aan de Universiteit van Oxford, gericht op immunologische tolerantie. Mijn huidige onderzoek richt zich op transplantatiegeneeskunde, auto-immuunziekten en etnisch bepaalde verschillen in ziektepresentatie en processen. Initiatiefnemer van duurzame transplantatieprogramma’s in Suriname en de Antillen. Docent nefrologie, klinische immunologie, infectieziekten en medische ethiek. Recent voltooide ik de commissarissenleergang aan Nyenrode. Voorzitter van het Landelijk Overleg Niertransplantatie. Sedert 2020 met veel plezier arts op de Kruispost, een huisartsenpost voor ongedocumenteerden
