About Freedom Malik

I am a University of Dubuque graduate with a passion for wildlife. I received my Bachelors of Science in biology with a minor in chemistry. On campus I was involved with the environmental club, Web of Life as a treasurer elect. I spear headed many events on and off campus, including Dump or Donate which was a program I created to give students the option to donate their used items at the end of the year, instead of throwing them in the landfill. Off campus I worked as an intern at the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium. I worked there for 2 years when I was going to school and gained the following skills: time management, general care of animals and water systems, and better understanding of how an aquarium/zoo organization runs. I have used my keen observation skills to detect and inform my superiors of things from parasite infestations to typos with the animal information signs. I also have experience as a certified animal handler at the Humane Society of Dubuque. Over the last summer of my college career I got an internship at Nahant Marsh in down town Davenport. While there I was able to sharpen my skills as an educator and learn more about what it means to be a naturalist. In the future I would be a perfect fit for a career in wildlife management with my love and respect for the great outdoors and background in conservation.
